| eLine FAQ
What is eLine?
eLine started as a partnership between Del Mar College and
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to bring generic nursing education
to the online environment. It provides an alternative method for completion
of nursing education for eligibility to take the National Council Licensure
Examination (NCLEX-RN). See How eLine Works
for more information.
Do I have to be admitted to Del Mar or TAMU-CC before I can take eLine
classes?
In order to participate in eLine, you must be admitted
to either Del Mar or TAMU-CC and be accepted into the nursing program
for that school. You can choose either the associate degree nursing program
at Del Mar or the baccalaureate degree at TAMU-CC. See the eLine
Degree Choices for more information.
What if I still have one or two prerequisites to complete?
You need to complete all the prerequisites for the
school you have chosen to enter (Del Mar OR TAMU-CC) before entering the
eLine curriculum. Prerequisites include the core curriculum for TAMU-CC/Del
Mar as well as for the nursing program.
Are the requirements available online?
You need to check with your local college/university
for availability of online courses. Courses with lab components are usually
not offered online.
What are the requirements for registering for eLine?
Before you can be considered for eLine, the following
are required:
-Admission to the college/university
-Completion of core curriculum( or equivalent)
-Completion of the nursing program prerequisites
-Admission to the nursing program
NOTE: currently limited to Texas student.
How do I register for eLine courses?
You will register for the regular nursing courses
listed in the catalog, but special sections will be designated for eLine
students. You will then have access to the modules that make up the content
of that course. The eLine Advisor Coordinators will assist you with this
process once you have been accepted into the eLine curriculum.
How do I know if online learning is for me?
Only you can determine that. Realize that eLine
is in the developing stages and you will be on the leading edge of this
program. Online learning requires students that are self-motivated and
have the self discipline to keep on task without being monitored. There
are pros and cons to online learning. Online learning gives you the freedom
to set your own study schedule, but it requires more self-discipline than
on-campus classes. Online learning means you work from written directions
rather than from face-to-face instructions. If you think learning online
means less work than regular classes, think again. Online learning requires
at least as much time as traditional classes. You should take an online
course to test whether you like/can do the work before signing up for
a whole program online. The links below will provide see if me guidance
as you explore whether online learning is the right option for you.

How much do I need to know about using computers in order to take these
online courses?
You should have a fundamental level of computer
literacy. At the very least you should know how to send and receive e-mail
(including sending and reading attachments), be familiar with the Internet
and how to use web browsers, know how to install software, know how to
use a word processing program, and know how to cut and paste between applications.

Can I take some courses online and some classroom courses?
If you decide to enroll in the eLine program you
cannot take traditional (on-campus) courses in the nursing program simultaneously.
What happens when I enroll in eLine?
You will register for the regular nursing courses
listed in the catalog, but special sections will be designated for eLine
students. You will then have access to the modules that make up the content
of that course. Each module will be graded, all modules grades will be
weight averaged, and a final grade will be issued for the course. Completion
is self-paced but courses must be completed within 3 academic semesters
[including clinical component]. You have a total
of 4 years to complete the nursing degree.
What if I change my mind and decide to go to the traditional nursing
program?
If you finish all the modules associated with a
course, you will receive a grade and credit for the course (if the grade
is a C or better) on your transcript. If you do not complete the course
(all the modules making up that course), you must re-enroll in the on-campus
course. (This is similar to withdrawing from an on-campus course.)
There are several considerations to a change from
eLine to the traditional nursing program: It is on a space available status
and NOT guaranteed and the course(s) you need for the on campus program
may not be offered for a semester or more. A transfer in the first semester
is usually NOT possible but may be possible in subsequent semesters.
Other considerations to keep in mind: you must
register and repay for the course; it is considerated a readmission to
the nursing program (limited number of readmissions allowed) and there
is no refund when eLine courses are dropped.
How fast can I complete the eLine nursing program?
That, of course, depends on how quickly you can
complete the modules and any accompanying clinical components. It could
be as fast as 18 months. To meet accrediting body standards, a program
of study in nursing MUST be completed within 4 calendar years.
How will clinicals be done?
Clinicals will ideally be done at a facility near
where you live. We cannot guarantee that clinicals can be set up near you. Adjunct clinical faculty and/or preceptor will be your
one-on-one instructor. The objectives and skills required will be the
same as that expected of the campus-based nursing student. You may be
required to complete clinicals in Corpus Christi. (Del Mar College fundamentals
clinical is done in groups in Corpus Christi)
How will I purchase books?
You may purchase books at the college/university
bookstore or online . eLine students will
be provided program resources, including links to reliable online textbook
retailers.
What is the cost of the course?
In general, online courses will cost the same as
on-campus courses.
Will financial aid pay for online classes?
The same rules and regulations
for financial aid will be followed as exist for on-campus courses. It
is highly suggested that you call the financial aid office of
your chosen school for detailed information and deadlines as eLine may
cause you unexpected problems with financial aid because of the nature
of eLine semesters.

What do I have to do to continue from an associate nursing degree to
a baccalaureate degree?
You will need to complete the core curriculum for
TAMU-CC and additional nursing courses for the baccalaureate degree. Credit
earned through the eLine program at Del Mar College will transfer to TAMU-CC.
As long as the courses meet the state of Texas criteria*, completing the
entire core curriculum at an accredited institution will also mean that
the core curriculum has been met for TAMU-CC.
* A student must have successfully completed 6
semester hours in government or political science, including consideration
of the US constitution and Texas constitution.
